Getting to the Root of Biodiversity

As biodiversity is directly tied to climate change, the more our global temperature rises, the greater our irreplaceable habitats, species and food crops are in danger of damage or extinction. In fact, in 2020, the World Economic Forum (WEF) put biodiversity loss in the top group of global risks. This reality makes it more imperative now than ever before to invest in the health and sustenance of our ecosystems.

Combatting and reversing the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services, including prevention of soil erosion and flood prevention, now serves as a top global priority. This focus is reflected in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to 2030 as Goal #15: to “protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.”

Steps in the Right Direction

We are elevating our efforts around biodiversity to do our part in conserving the environment. A few of our efforts include:

  • Understanding the natural areas where our plants are and assessing and mitigating any potential impacts from our operations.
  • Utilizing an Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) to assess our beverage manufacturing plant locations in our Brazil, Mexico and Europe regions and identify potential risks (assessment conducted every three years).
  • Committing to replenishing 100% of the water we consume from our water-stressed locations, back to those watersheds by 2030 (established through Goal #9, part of the Resource Efficiency pillar of 云顶集团糖果游戏’s Twentyby30 program).
  • Joining a collaborative water replenishment project, the São Paulo Water Fund, with our partner The Nature Conservancy.
